Tū Whare Ora – Building Capacity for Māori Driven Design in Sustainable Settlement Development

The “Tū Whare Ora – Building Capacity for Māori Driven Design in Sustainable Settlement Development” project seeks to address the growing desire among Māori to be more active in developing living environments for their people and the overall settlement patterns of their respective rohe.

Authored by Shaun Awatere, Craig Pauling, Shad Rolleston, Rau Hoskins and Karl Wixon for Nga Pae o te Maramatanga, the report provides detailed analysis and guidance relating to the development of papakāinga.

The report advocates for the integration of mātauranga Māori through collaborative design processes that acknowledge kaupapa Māori and consider the inextricable link between whenua and whānau/hapū/iwi.
