Community Housing Regulatory Authority

The Community Housing Regulatory Authority (CHRA), based in the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE), registers and regulates Community Housing Providers (CHPs) to ensure they are well-governed, remain viable, and deliver appropriate housing services to tenants.

The Authority also works to support the growth of a fair, efficient and transparent community housing sector.  Once registered, your organisation may be eligible to enter into a contract with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) in order to receive the Income-Related Rent Subsidy (IRRS), but this is at MSDs discretion.  Registration with the Authority does not automatically guarantee IRRS.

If you would like any further information about registration, please visit the Authority’s website http://chra.mbie.govt.nz, email CHRA@mbie.govt.nz or phone 04 896 5908.
