Marae and homes around Ōtautahi are to get a refresh thanks to a $3.7m investment from the Māori Housing Fund.

Māori Development and Associate Housing Minister Nanaia Mahuta says the project will include a six home papakainga development at Tuahiwi marae, 60 community-led housing repairs across four marae in the region, home maintenance workshops, and assorted kainga ora health homes programmes.

She says warm, dry, healthy homes where whānau have stability is the starting point to make their lives better.

She sees the investment in Māori housing as the catalyst for wider community development.

Repairs to the existing whānau homes are expected to be completed by June 2020.
