Whanganui National Māori Housing Conference 2014 - Basil Tapuke Presentation

Basil Tapuke is the general manager of trusts for Te Tumu Paeroa. He oversees the management of almost 2,000 trusts and agencies administered by the Māori Trustee. Basil was previously manager of strategy.

Basil was previously a member of the senior management team at Te Ohu Kaimoana. He has held a range of different roles, spanning aquaculture development, general legal practice, fisheries policy, accounting and governance. He's currently chairman of Te Tumu Kāinga and a director for Ngahina Developments Ltd.

Basil's presentation focussed on project structuring and financial models for housing projects in relation to the work of Te Tumu Kāinga (previously know as the Auckland and Onehunga Hostels Endowment Trust).


Whanganui Iwi and Te Matapihi he tirohanga mō te iwi Trust hosted the 3rd National Māori Housing Conference in Whanganui from May 1-3 2014. The conference attracted over 150 delegates, with presentations including Māori housing success stories from across the motu as well as reports from all key housing agencies on the social housing reforms. The Hon. Tariana Turia Associate Minister for Housing was present at the conference and announced the new rural Māori housing fund as part of her keynote address.
